RSA, London wedding photography

London wedding photography at the RSA, John Adam Street

While the bride was having make-up applied and her hair styled, family and guests were arriving by double-decker bus for the wedding of Tracey and Graham at The Royal Society of Arts.   As they gathered in the Great Room for the wedding ceremony, I positioned myself for Tracey’s arrival, and began photographing both close-up and wide-angled images.

Once married, the party moved into the Benjamin Franklin room with its celebrated paintings, while a string quartet played in the background. With plenty of natural light coming through the glass-domed roof, I was able to photograph unobtrusively without the need for flash.

As daylight was fading and theatre lights began to glow, Tracey, Graham and I took a stroll to the Strand for portraits amongst the hustle and bustle of shoppers and onlookers. Using the structure and monochrome tones of The Adelphi Hotel as a backdrop, I began to photograph the couple, and despite reminding me that she did not like having her photograph taken, Tracey enjoyed the process and both she and Graham gave themselves to the shoot, proving to be good fun.

It was back to the Benjamin Franklin room for the wedding breakfast and a rather present Toast Master!  It was an opportunity for me to take a short break to review images and to see what I need to work on to complete the coverage.  Once speeches were underway I resumed my reportage , this time with a more relaxed wedding party.

Finally, it was down to the Vaults for cutting of the wedding cake.  As champagne continued to flow, the DJ lined up his first track and Graham and Tracey took to the dance floor.

As evening guests arrived, my coverage was done and I left the party.  Here are some of my favourite shots:
