Caroline and Kim chose Syon Park, the London home of the Duke of Northumberland, for their civil ceremony.  Feted as Robert Adam’s early English masterpiece, Syon House has been recognised as the finest surviving evidence of the Scottish architect’s revolutionary use of colour, and it therefore held great potential for my photographic objectives.

Caroline and Kim’s ceremony took place in the Great Hall, with its cool pale tones and black and white marble floor.  Taking my camera low and using a wide angle lens, I was able to capture images with a strong graphic edge, the floor being particularly effective in these photographs.  It also meant that I could focus directly on the couple as well as documenting the congregation and its reactions.

Post-ceremony drinks were served in the pretty courtyard with its parterre garden.  As guests celebrated with the married couple I continued my reportage coverage, considering the symmetry of the space in my compositions.

A little later, via the wooded Queen’s Walk, the wedding party headed for the Great Conservatory for the wedding breakfast.  Built out of gunmetal, Bath stone and glass, this huge space is bathed in even light, which is a real treat for any photographer.
